No AT&T cell service at new airport

Posted: January 26, 2011 in Uncategorized

Another tip from a reader. There is very poor to no AT&T cell phone service at the new airport.  Not good for PR.

According to Wikipedia 92 million customers will not be able to use their cell phones, iphones or ipads at the new airport. The city might consider free local calls from several land lines until a new tower is built.

Is there any of the $160 million left to improve cell phone service for At&T customers?

Hopefully the 60 million Sprint and 96 millionVerizon customers are in better luck. Let me know how your cell phone is working.

Dude–AT&T doesn’t work at my house either. There just aren’t going to be towers to create line of sight transmissions to all points. This would be up to the cellphone carriers and/or the individuals who might put up towers on which they can place transmitters. I suspect it will happen out there–but because it makes business sense for the private parties involved. In some places, even a homeowners association can prohibit putting up the tower. The airport opening has certainly not been handled well by the city, but it’s not fair to call them to task for a lack of cellular coverage.

Thanks for the comment. I would say if you had $300 million and 10 years to work on it that you would have cell coverage at your house

Called AT&T real estate and submitted a request for a new tower to serve the airport area
